Alanna's Reflection on Wednesday, 19Nov

Drills: Strategy C, 5on5 against seniors

Everyone was kinda focus while practicing the strategy together and also tried to grasp the concept as quick as possible. However, when we were told to use the strategy to play against our seniors, most of us forgot what to do and where to run. Jiaolian also said that it would be uselesss if we can't put whatever we have learnt to use regardless of how much effort we've put in during practice. During the few matches we played, we also tried out RED. I think there is still room for improvement as there are only few interceptions done and the 2nd/3rd person must remember to run back for defence ASAP.

On the whole, training today was quite effective as we learnt a new strategy to break our opponents' zone defence and that we managed to go through RED again to refresh everyones mind

Apart from that, i feel that everyone should work on their individual skills (e.g shooting, lay-up, under-baskets, hook shots, etc)and must know their teammates stong points. In this way, the team can rise to a greater height.

All the best for the upcoming Geylang Serai and Unity Adidas matches:D

Annabell's reflection for training on 14th november

since everyone posted on what we did during training then i'll add other things like our attitude and behaviour during play and training.

i feel that for drills we need to be more serious and most importantly i think there should be more of encouraging of each other to endure and persever .yup. We also need to have trust between each other to have a smooth play on court. I feel that the triangle passes were not very well done as the ball was not passed properly and we keep losing the ball. We also had a friendly with Kranji secondary. We're not reading the game well, but can be improved after a few more games, to analyse how the opponent defence, attacks, their strengths and their weeknesses. After understanding the opponent then we will try to cover their strengths and attack their weeknesses. Overall the play was considered not very good, as there are many areas where we can improve on. I can see the potential in our players in both c and b'div. as long as we give in our 120%, focus more in our play. we will go far for 09'(: jiayou c&b'div
we can't spell sUccess without U:):):)

Jia Ying's Reflection on Fri, 14 Nov Training

Warmups: 10 rounds around the court
Drills: Triangle, Alley, shots and layups from the Free-throw line, Faking, Red (1.2.1.1)
Friendly match against Kranji Secondary

Completing the alley for this training took a longer time, as at the last part when the ball was supposed to be shot in there were some mistakes, but in the end we overcame that problem.
We also learnt a different way to fake the opponent by pretending to pass it to someone else before doing the lay-up, which was useful.
Then we had a friendly match against Kranji Secondary. Even though we beat them, there is still room for improvement as I think most of us were unfocused or nervous about playing against outside people.
After the match we practised 1.2.1.1, and there is still room for improvement in practising, discussing and understanding the method. But overall I think we have benefited from this training greatly, so just keep it up! JIA YOU EVERYONE!

Training on the 14th November 2008

The B'Division had a friendly match at 4pm, against Kranji Sec. Although we beat them, I still think that we still have alot of room for improvement and that both our B and C Division atill lack the chemistry amongst the players.
After the match, jL went through the Red - 1.2.1.1. with both batches all over again, but it wasn't all that good. So I think that we should all do our part by using more of our own free time to try and think back and then try to understand the method to doing it right and then imrpovising on it.
Other than that, I think we have all done what we should have and just keep it up! :D

ATHENA :D

Cheryl's reflection

Cheryl's reflection for training on November 12th(Wednesday)

SORRY FOR THE LONG ABSENCE OF THE SEC 3S!

Okay here's my reflection.

Warmups:10 rounds around the court because it was too hot outside
Drills:Agility ladder, hurdles, skipping, box2, box, triangle
And after the drills, we played 5 on 5 with the seniors.

I think the agility ladder was done too slowly because some of us weren't serious and just playing around. We should concentrate while doing our drills. JL also commented on the time we took to complete the ladder drills.
For the hurdles, we did the same thing as always. But like the ladder, there were people who weren't serious. I think when it comes to drills, we must all concentrate so that we can fully benefit from them.
Box, box2 and triangle refreshed our memories because some of us weren't too sure about some parts of it. It was good practice because there was one part where nazi and annabell planned some cut in move and in the 5 on 5, they actually did it. So this drill helped a lot.
5on5 showed us that our team was really improving. The flow is there and we're working much better together as a team. I think our fast breaks are really improving as we are able to have an outlet and cutter very smoothly and naturally. I think the past fastbreak drills that JL made us do really helped a lot.

Alright that's the end of my post (: LET'S WORK HARD AND DO EVERYONE PROUD :D

Joycelyn's Reflection Journal

Joycelyn's Reflection Journal

Traning on Wednesday, 5 November 2008

Drills: agility ladder and hurdles, skipping, 3 corners passes, 2 ball drill, fast break drills, defence drill(box 2), long start and short start layups.

Focus:improve footwork(agility ladder & hurdles), improve jumping ability
(skipping), improve passes (3 corners passes), to improve our ball handling(2 ball drill), understanding fast break and defence strategies.

For the agility ladder, I was not really sure if I was doing the steps correctly, but with the guidance of my teammates, i managed to it. For the 3 corners passes, we were a bit confused at what passes we should do but with the seniors help, we managed to do them correctly. We did the fast break drills which some of us had never tried before and hence was a bit confused. But the seniors were very encouraging and taught us the correct way of doing it and tell us when we did something wrongly.

For the defence drill, box 2, almost everyone rememebered where we should be running to at different places compared to the past few trainings when we were confused with where we should be running to. So i think that everyone had spent effort into remembering the drill.

Rebecca's Reflection Journal

Training on Friday, 31st October 2008
Drills : 2.4 km, agility ladder and hurdles, skipping (100 skips X3, double skipping), underbasket hook shot, four corners with medicine ball (chest pass and overhead pass), passes, defence strategy (red, box 2, side box), playing match with sec 2 seniors, abs training.
Focus: Improve stamina (2.4km), improve footwork (agility ladder and hurdles), improve hook shot (underbasket hook shot), strength (medicine ball), understanding different defence strategy
Training on friday was slightly different than before. We did not have the sec 3s to help us and this enables us to be more independent during training and not relying on them to show us what to do. E.g. agility ladder; usually, they would show us and we would just follow them as they do, but on friday, eveyone had to do it themselves. Most of us remembered the footwork on the agility ladder and hurdles. When we were doing the underbasket hook shot, i couldn't really do it well, but my teamates cheered me on which encouraged me further, to accomplish what i had to do, and to do it well. Also, when doing our defence strategy, i did not really understand how to do, but my teamates taught me and showed me what i had to do. Overall, i felt that this training was a success in improving my stamina and footwork, and giving me a variety of defence strategies.

Izzah's Reflection Journal

Things we did on Friday, 31st October 2008
Drills : 2.4 km, agility ladder and hurdles, 300 skips, double skipping, underbasket hoop shot, four corners with medicine ball (chest pass and overhead pass), passes, defence strategy (red, box 2, side box), playing match, abs training
Focus: Improve stamina, improve footwork, to improve our hoop shots, strength, understand the different types of defence strategy

While i was doing the 300 skips, i felt quite tired at the last 100 skips when my leg will always tangle in the ropes. it was distracting, and keep stopping to get my leg out of the ropes. in the end i managed to do it. i think i had improve a little bit on my underbasket hoop shot. at first my ball keep going straight up and not towards the basket, but my teammates cheered me on and taught me how to do it right and i was able to do it. i thinnk i need to improve more in my strength as i was doing the four corners with the medicine ball, my hands felt weak after awhile. i wasn't very focused in today's training as i kept forgetting the defence strategy and how to do it, but i will make sure that i pay more attention to it next time. we played match against the sec twos, then at last, we did abs training with the sec twos.

Love,
IZZAH!:D

Yolanda's Reflection Journal

Reflection on training on Wednesday, 29th October 2008

Drills: Running 2.4km, Skipping - 300 skips & 50 double skips, Agility Ladder & Hurdles, Ball Handling, Match.
Focus: Improve stamina, to have swift movements, to improve coordination, to better our control of the ball.
When doing 300 skips, I was already exhausted. It got even worse when I started doing the double skips. Doing double skips is not my forte. Therefore, I took a really long time to complete it. However, the cheers from the sec 1s encouraged me to complete the double skips. Later, as we proceeded to the agility ladder and hurdles, I was quite distracted as I was very tired after the skipping. Luckily, I managed to focus in the later part of this drill. Lastly, we played matches against the seniors. Through these matches, I learned the correct way of defending as my previous way of defending was wrong. In Conclusion, although we did not do much drills in this training, but i had benefited a lot from it.

Cheers,
Yolanda

Mandy's Reflection Journal

Things we did on 23rd October 2008, Thursday.
Drills: 2.4km run, agility ladder and hurdles, skipping, 10 rounds barefooted on grass, lastly partner stretching.
Focus: Improve stamina, have quick thinking, become more nimble, improve ability to jump higher which is important, improve strength of ankle, in order to avoid muscle aching and to warm down.

Some steps for the agility ladder was hard and puzzling. while trying, i was eventually confused and was stuck not knowing what to do. luckily, the seniors were nice and taught me. hence i was able to get the hang of it. Especially steps that involved whole body and mind coordination, i was lost at those that involved beats. for example, drills like "in... in... out...out". i was not focused enough. Skipping improves jumping ability which is crucial for basketball. Also, it improves my stamina. Then we ran on the grass without wearing shoes, to improve our ankle. So that the chances of getting a sprained ankle was reduced. Lastly, we did partner stretching. Then we ended with a smile as it was another day we all had exercise.

Huifen's Reflection Journal
Reflection of 21st October, Tuesday's training.
Drills: 2.4km, agility ladder & hurdles, 300 skips, 3 sets of 400m sprinting, 1 round crab walk, abs training (e.g. superman), followed by pair stretching.
Focus: Improve stamina, to have swift movement, coordination, movement during defence, strengthen abs to improve balance and stretching to recover faster.
While doing drills on the agility ladder, I stumbled on quite a few as I was a little confused and distracted, but the seniors were very supportive, and constantly reminded me the correct steps, like "in in out out...", which made me feel encouraged and determined to finish the drill well. Although I felt drained and exhausted sprinting the 3 sets of 400m, cheers from the other sec 1s inevitably willed me to carry on. I wasn't very focused during today's training and was sensitive towards every little movement, so I shall pay more attention for the next training. To sum up, I felt that today's training was able improve my stamina and strengthen much of my weak muscles :)
WITH lots & lots of LOVE,
Huifen

Umi's Reflection Journal:D
My reflection for traning on 16thOctober2008(Thursday)

The drills that we did: 12 rounds, crab walk drill followed by ball handling then a game of monkey.
Focus: Improve on our movement during defence, stamina, ball handling, ball sense-how to expect where the ball is going to be passed and intercept it.
At first, I couldn't get the steps for one of the crab walk drills but B div cheered me on:D and helped me to get the steps right. I think that i was able to know how to intercept the ball with my ball sense but it still have to be improved. In my opinion, I think everyone was able to master and understand all the drills but may get lost at times and their reaction was one second late. But soon everyone was able to do it. YAY! During the training, i think i did focus but was distracted at times. I think that this training will really help in my defence as it improves our basics as well as our ball sense and of course, defence. :D

Balance

Like a tightrope walker
holding a balancing pole
I am learning the art of
carrot and stick
strict or relax?
close or distant?
hot or cold?

My words

It has been quite a while
I wonder how have you been?
Have you been training well?
Did you have fun during the day camp?
How did you fare for the friendly matches?

It has been quite a while
and I feel very distant from you

You could have forgotten about my words
about how I emphasize the importance of discipline
It hurt when I was approached by others telling me
about how you behaved : shows disrespect to teachers, late for class, skipping class and etc.
"your basketballers!", they said.

Like parents need to answer for their children,
I have to be responsible for all your doing!

I have told you repeatedly: behave, behave and behave!
I need not to be there always just to make sure you behave!
You are already teenagers, think before you act and be responsible when you act!
How many times you listen to mp3 players, eat and use phone at court, thinking nobody sees you?
How many of you can pledge you are not guilty of violating school rules and have no demerit points?
How many of you are still sitting on your homework when the deadline is long overdue?

Prove yourself worthy enough for the school team jersys.

Before I next appear on court, reflect on yourselves.

You and I are bound as a team. United we stand, divided we fall.

I always hold my team and players close to my heart,
do you or do you not?

Out of Action

Will be out of country
from 24/05 to 06/06
What I hope to see in you
when I am back is
1)Better skills
2) Better discipline
3) Better team spirit

To be in the zone finals
We need to win 4 teams at least.
Time is precious
Seize the chance for the June tournament
to polish your skills

Jiamin, it is about your will
for the time you are in court, fight!
no excuse to slow down, give up or let go
Impulsive fouls is banned!

Yuhan, it is about the belief
read the game as if you are the expert
once you are in the red zone area, go for the goal!
imagine, visualise every detail, it helps!

Umi, hold the ball before you starts dribbling.
push yourself further, I have yet to see what you are capable of.

Wenjing, use your energy well by not running and jumping too much.
every move you must have a motive: screen, roll, box out, rebound and etc
Be stronger and firmer! You shouldn't be easily pushed down and get hurt!

Ruijia, use your voice well. It should be stimulating in a calm way.
You need to jump though you are the tallest. Opponents will not give up fighting for the ball, thus JUMP!

Huiyi, keep your cool and make sure your defence last more than 3 secs.
I want to see the fire in your eyes to give your best!

Jiaying, visualise what you need to do before every training.
The power to focus internally and externally is equally important.
You are able to dribble faster and be a smart fighter.

Qiying, always explore any possible means when you are in the zone area.
Injury is not a hiddrance unless you think so . Show your power for underbasket.

Zhixuan, be confident on court. Show no mercy to opponents and play as if you are the fastest, strongest, tallest.

Attentional Styles

1)Broad External Assess
-Total awareness of everything that is going on around.
eg)This court is really big and it is a windy day.

2)Narrow External Object Focus
-Attention directed to deal with select information from outside.
eg)Watch the ball pass.

3)Broad Internal Analyse
-Attention directed to deal with a lot of information inside's one own head.
eg)I plan to trap the opponent when she does the baseline pass.

4)Narrow Internal Thought Focus
-Attention directed to deal with select information within.
eg)My lay up is good.

Discipline

Why after the recess bell rang
I still see my players loitering at the canteen
I still see my players strolling slowly to class
I still see my players playing and giggling as they strolled

Do not tell me that was one of the occassions that you were late
Do not tell me any possible reasons and excuses

Why after so many training
You are still unable to do a simple drill and need reminders
You are still unable to open your mouth and communicate
you are still unable to self managed

At this rate, how much can you learn?
At this rate, what goals can we have?
At this rate, what kind of image you want to portray?

Bonding Day 2008

I heard you all worked well
preparing the food and organising the games
I heard you all had fun
especially the tug-of-war
I heard you all had a great time
for the few hours spent at West Coast
I am happy and glad though I wasn't there to witness this

Play Smart

Average Teams play hard
Good Teams play smart

Excellent strategies are useless
when you cannot read the game
1) Look at the basket and judge how far you are from it.
By doing that, you are assessing the situation, at the same time knowing where your outlet passes can be.
2) Team work is necessary, however when you are at penalty line or nearer to the basket, it is your duty to score. Passing to someone less than 1 metre within red zone is being irresponsible.
3) Communication helps to promote self focus and team spirit. Calling out, using hand signals, eye contact facilitates team play.

Basketball Centre, Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - Raffles Girls’ School outplayed Singapore Chinese Girls’ School 59-46 in their National B Division Basketball Championship semi-final this afternoon to secure their place in the final.

The whole game turned on the last five minutes of the third quarter when RGS suffocated the SCGS attack with a successful three-quarter full court press, restricting them to just two points. Up until that point, SCGS had raised hopes of an upset when they pulled level at 24-24 with 5:40 left on the clock but RGS changed tactics to devastating effect to stem the SCGS tide.

Before this turning point, SCGS were always in the game. In the first quarter, SCGS came to within two points of RGS, trailing 7-9 before a three-point basket by #9 of RGS ensured her team walked off leading 14-9 at the end of the first.

The second quarter saw more of the same as SCGS chased the game with RGS always comfortably ahead. Sara Choong (#11) of SCGS then forced RGS into a tactical rethink when she sank two straight baskets with 3:12 left on the clock and what was then a 19-12 game for RGS suddenly became an uncomfortable 19-16 game.

An RGS timeout was called to regroup and the team in green came out to double-team SCGS’ Sara Choong. Dogged defending by RGS plus technical mistakes by SCGS ensured that RGS walked off at the end of the second quarter 22-18 ahead.

Excitement went up a notch in the third when SCGS finally tied it up at 24-24 forcing the RGS team again into a timeout and tactical rethink. That’s when they came back on court with their suffocating defence to shut down the entire SCGS team, especially Sara Choong. By the time RGS walked off the court at the end of the third quarter, they were again comfortably ahead by 12 points at 39-27. SCGS were outfought.

An RGS victory seemed all but certain throughout the fourth quarter. With three minutes to go, RGS led 49-40, the nine-point gap the closest SCGS got to RGS. In a series of defensive and offensive plays that typified RGS’ domination, a layup by SCGS’ #5 Sarah was swatted from her hand by Hannah Ng. Swinging into attack, Hannah passed it out quickly to Vienna Chua (#7). The ball then found its way into the hands of Cheng Chia (#6) who sold a dummy to an SCGS player before slipping it into the path of Joanne Ho charging in on her right to finish off for two. A slick transition from defense to attack that combined power, pace and teamwork.

RGS will now face Nanyang Girls’ High who beat Unity 53-46 in the other semi-final. The final is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Toa Payoh Sports Hall. Game time is 2:00 p.m.

The last moment

Thank you

My tea's gone cold, I'm wondering why,
I got out of bed at all,
The morning rain clouds up my window,
And I can't see at all,
And even if I could it'd all be grey,
But your picture on my wall,
It reminds me that it's not so bad,
It's not so bad.

I drank too much last night, got bills to pay,
My head just feels in pain
I missed the bus and there'll be hell today,
I'm late for work again,
And even if I'm there, they'll all imply,
That I might not last the day,
And then you call me and it's not so bad,
It's not so bad.

And I want to thank you,
For giving me the best day of my life,
And oh, just to be with you,
Is giving me the best day of my life.

Pushed the door, I'm home at last,
And I'm soaking through and through,
Then you handed me a towel,
And all I see is you,
And even if my house falls down now,
I wouldn't have a clue,
Because you're near me.

Have you ever

Have you ever wonder
why I named this blog "Evolving"

It is an ONGOING PROCESS
of TRANSFORMING

It is about
CHANGING your thoughts
CHANGING your actions
CHANGING your habits
CHANGING your character
CHANGING your DESTINY

Have you ever wonder
why I was unhappy after your match

It is the serious part of me
thinking of how careless you were
to let
your old thoughts (loosen defence after scoring )
your old actions( not listening to coach's instruction)
your old habits( no box out, unnecessary foul)
appeared on court again

Remember
only with determination, perseverance and belief
then can you CHANGE your DESTINY

"I may run and hide
When you're screamn' my name, alright
But let me tell you now
There are prices to fame, alright
All of our time spent in flashes of light

All you people can't you see, can't you see
How your love's affecting our reality
Every time we're down
You can make it right
And that makes you larger than life

Looking at the crowd
And I see your body sway, c'mon
Wishn' I could thank you in a different way, c'mon
'Cause all of your time spent keeps us alive

Yeah, every time we're down
Yeah, you can make it right
Yeah, and that's what makes you larger than life"

The MUST

Preparation stage

1) Sleep Well
2) Eat Well

4) Train Well
5) Believe in yourself

The mind war

What is Yuying thinking about?

1)SCGS? 哼!lost to us by 7 points last time,
surely we can win them again!
2)SCGS? 嗯!They won Unity by 18 points,
maybe they have become stronger, must be on our guard.

What is SCGS thinking about?

1)We must seek revenge against Yuying! We must win!
We created miracle, we are the strongest! We want Semi-finals!
2)Yuying won us before, what if we lose again?

Do you fight to live or rot to die?

If

If my absence
will facilitate things
If my absence
will be constructive
If my absence
will make you at ease

I will gladly do so

If I have to be a devil
to ensure discipline
If I have to be a clown
to bridge gaps in between
If I have to be a mother
to nag and remind
If I have to be a counsellor
to listen and advice
If I have to be a policeman
to catch all your flaws
If I have to be anything
to make sure the team stays strong

I will gladly do so

To you, I may be just another laoshi in your life
To me, once my players, always my players
always dear, always precious

The Rs and Ps

The time frame is getting shorter
Reflect, recuperate and recharge
must be faster than before

1/3 feet in the Semi-finals now
Prepare, persevere and press on
making sure the 2/3 feet follows

"I have a dream, a song to sing
To help me cope with anything
If you see the wonder of a fairy tale
You can take the future
Even if you fail

I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream, I have a dream

I have a dream, a fantasy
To help me through reality
And my destination
Makes it worth the while
Pushing through the darkness
Still another mile"

Interesting

It will be interesting to know
how committed are you to win
in the coming quarter finals

It will be interesting to count
how many bad habits
( unnecessary fouls, no box out,
no rebounds, no support, no communication and etc)
will you kick off by then

It will be interesting to see
whether 12 players
will have only 1 heartbeat

The ball is round

nothing is impossible
till the final whistle is blown

How much you learned and remembered
will be shown all to me soon
I will await patiently

The ball is ROUND 球是圆的

When you lost to Bedok North
your chance to quarter finals was at stake
When you won Unity
you turned the table around
When you won Unity with great margin
you threatened Unity's chance in the next round

DO YOU SEE IT? MIRACLE happens

When you believe, you will definitely ACHIEVE

Becaused you loved me by Celine Dion

For all those times you stood by me
For all the truth that you made me see
For all the joy you brought to my life
For all the wrong that you made right
For every dream you made come true
For all the love I found in you
I'll be forever thankful baby
You're the one who held me up never let me fall
You're the one who saw me through through it all

You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best that was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith because you believed
I'm everything I am because you loved me

You gave me wings and made me fly
You touched my hand I could touch the sky
I lost my faith, you gave it back to me
You said no star was out of reach
You stood by me and I stood tall
I had your love I had it all
I'm grateful for each day you gave me
Maybe I don't know that much
But I know this much is true
I was blessed because I was loved by you

You were always there for me
The tender wind that carried me
A light in the dark shining your love into my life
You've been my inspiration
Through the lies you were the truth
My world is a better place because of you

I'm everything I am
Because you loved me

Clean Up! Wake Up!

What do you do when you see litter in your house?
Do you remove it or do you walk past it feeling irritated
and yet getting used to it eventually?

What about negative thoughts in your mind?
Do you treat them the same way too?

CLEAN UP YOUR MIND!

When the clock strikes twelve, what will you think of?
A day has ended or a new day begins?

When you trip and fall, what will you think of?
Dwell on it or learn from it?

A fighter learns from it and starts every step afresh.
A loser dwells on it and refuses to walk again.

What about you?

WAKE UP, FIGHTERS!

“如果没有风雨
尘埃怎能洗脱
小鸟不会在树上唱歌

如果世上没有青春热情的我
谁来点燃时代的火

没有事我不能做只要敢让我错
I am always willing to try
跌倒了我爬起又再来过
no matter how many times I have failed
虽然不是第一个但总会轮到我
I may not be the first to triumph
到底成功一定属于我”
but I will succeed one day

I remember and I wonder

I remember you teared
when you lost in Semi-finals
I remember you said
you wanted no more regrets
I remember you were relieved
after the draw of national rounds

I wonder how much were you hurt
when you still need to be initiated during trainings
I wonder how much you meant
when you chose to belittle yourselves before the match
I wonder how much you appreciated
when you played the worst and did nothing in the end

Look at youselves in this slide.

Did you not tell yourself to hang in there ?
Did you not push yourself to run to your best?
For every step you took, it was every step of determination
Will I see the same determination in you for the coming match?
Can I?

"Some say love it is a river that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love it is a razor that leaves your soul to bleed.

Some say love it is a hunger an endless, aching need
I say love it is a flower and you it's only seed.

It's the heart afraid of breaking that never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking that never takes the chance

It's the one who won't be taken who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live.

When the night has been too lonely and the road has been too long.
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong.

Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snow
Lies the seed that with the sun's love in the Spring becomes the Rose."

I am tired...

It is hurting so much...
I played my part...

Why am I feeling the hurt
when you should be the one feeling it?
Why am I crying over you
when you are still feeling indifferent ?
Why am I holding to the faith
when you disappoint me again and again?
Why am I telling myself to believe in you
when you don't even believe in yourself?
Why am I so positive
when you only gave me all the negatives?
Why am I finding time to be there for you
when all you think is that I have too much time to spare?
Why am I still saying so much
when you don't even ponder over my words?
Why am I making things difficult for myself
when I can just be an relaxed "passer-by" teacher-in-charge?
Why do I allow myself to be hurt by you
and yet still holding strong on to you?

I am tired...

《我真的很不错》 伍思凯

没有时间再无谓的沉默叹息
There is no time for any regret
让太阳晒一晒充满希望的背脊
let the sun brings out the hope within us
迎着世界的风
embrace the wind
我要无畏的挺立
I will stand tall
对于必须做的事
for all I have to do
我一点都不怀疑
I will put in heart and mind
要做就做最好的
I will do my very best

不要明天才说真的可惜
and leave no chance to be sorry
我知道我能做到的
I believe I can achieve
就是不停不停不停不停不停不停地努力
by working hard
哦~~我真的不错 我真的很不错
I am who I am and will give my best
哦~~我真的不错 哦~~我真的很不错
I am who I am and will give my best
我的朋友 我想骄傲地告诉你
I am proud to tell you, dear friends

The shot

What do you look at
when you see the score sheet?

who is the first person you think of
when you score?

IMM (I, Me, Myself)?

Bear in mind
for every shot you made,
it is an accumulative effort of your teammates

Thank them for giving you the chance

Bear in mind
for every shot your teammates made
you played a role in that accomplishment

Thank them for treasuring the chance

Stand by Me by Ben E.King

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No I won't be afraid, no I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh now now stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me

If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
And the mountains should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry, no I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me, stand by me-e, yeah

Whenever you're in trouble won't you stand by me, oh now now stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

Darlin', darlin', stand by me-e, stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

A shoulder to cry on by Tommy page

Life is full of lots of up and downs,
And the distance feels further when you're headed for the ground,
And there is nothing more painful than to let you're feelings takeyou down,
It's so hard to know the way you feel inside,
When there's many thoughts and feelings that you hide,
But you might feel better if you let me walk with youby your side,

And when you need a shoulder to cry on,
When you need a friend to rely on,
When the whole world is gone,
You won't be alone, cause I'll be there,
I'll be your shoulder to cry on, I'll be there, I'll be a friend to rely on,
When the whole world is gone, you won't be alone, cause I'll be there.

All of the times when everything is wrong
And you're feeling like There's no use going on
You can't give it up I hope you work it out and carry on
Side by side, With you till the end
I'll always be the one to firmly hold your hand
no matter what is said or done our love will always continue on

Everyone needs a shoulder to cry on
everyone needs a friend to rely on
When the whole world is gone
you won't be alone cause I'll be there
I'll be your shoulder to cry on
I'll be there I'll be the one you rely on
when the whole world's gone you won't be alone cause I'll be there!

And when the whole world is gone
You'll always have my shoulder to cry on....

Remember

When there is a closure,
A negative person sees it as the end,
A positive person sees it as a new beginning.

When a door is shut,
A negative person feels it is the end of the world,
A positive person starts searching for another one.

When you are scolded,
When you are tortured,
When you are pressurized,
Do I see a negative you or a positive one?

Basketball and I

written in 2000 and 2001
Primary
When I was 10, one day, my Chinese teacher who also taught P.E. went round classes hunting for tall girls. "YOU, come down for basketball training" and from
then on, I was introduced to basketball! Together with the rest, we were taught the fundamentals of the game. I learnt very fast and enjoyed the praises from the teacher. I could still remember the tournament we participated in. We wore sleeveless blue white collar jersys and fought with quite a number of schools. The scotching sun, the falling leaves, the gaint-sized opponents and the forever panting for breath. We were not very organised but we did our best. I thought I played the forward position then and it was very tiring. The sense of achievement emerged only when we won the second placing in 1983.The first and the only trophy for me in those primary school days. Soon I became complacent and thought that even with fewer trainings I could still cope well. At that time, Chinese Orchestra (which was my main interest then) took up much of my time. When I finally found out that I neglected it too much, I decided to heed my parents' advice to concentrate on one eca only and spend more time for the preparation of the coming PSLE.

Secondary
When I went to secondary school, I chose Chinese Orchestra as my eca without much hesitation. I still like basketball but due to parents' objection, I only joined the interclass matches. I was asked to join the school team after a two year break. I was eager and for the first time I made my own decision. My parents did object and my the other eca stressed me out a lot too. In the end, I gave up Chinese Orchestra and concentrated fully on basketball. The days then were not that smooth either. Our coach left and we were left to train alone. Our seniors did try to get their outside coach to teach, but many factors led to the failure in doing so. Though faced with so many obstacles, the team had been very close . My playing position had now changed. I took over the captainship in my last year there. It was not an easy task. We had arranged a number of friendly matches ourselves. We took them very seriously as those were rare chances. Nobody in the team would want to absent themselves and very often, almost everyone put basketball as one's priority. What we learnt was that we would not despise ourselves even though we were always left alone. Those years, we cried, we laughed, we disheartened, we pressed on. Now only the silver and bronze medals in the cupboard could bring back these memories.

JC
I thought I would not have contact with basketball anymore when I went to JC. I was asked by my teammate to appeal with her through basketball. I was not that keen but I did not reject. Soon, I joined the training there and my interest in basketball was pushed to another greater height. I played as centre for I was the one of the tallest. My coach, Mr Sim, though he could not turn up for most of the trainings, we still managed to learn much from him when we talked to him during our free time. My captains were very demanding and we were perpetually tortured by them willingly. They stretched our physical limits to the maximum that we often grumbled in front and behind them. However, deep inside, we shared one common goal, and that was to maintain the national top titles which our seniors had done for the past 12 years. We were under tremendous pressure when there was not a single combined school player in our team. We trained real hard and very very hard. We ran 3km for warm up with weights around our ankles and wrists; We dashed up and down the 4 levels high staircase . We did 500 skipping; We used medicine balls instead of bean bags for shuttle run; We challenged the steep slope outside school and We did hundreds and hundreds of shooting. We did all the impossibles just to make sure we had no regrets during competition. In the process, we came up with our own cheers and we sorted different ways to boost our morale. We clinched the national second again! Till now, I could still remember vividly the determination, perserverence and cooperation we displayed.

University
In the university days, I was devoted to the running of my department society. It was when the inter-faculty games were held that I was back to play basketball again. We came in first for two years. After winning the last medal in 1993, my role in basketball as a player came to an end.
Work
In 1995, I was given an opportunity to teach baskteball. In the initial stage, I faced problems in buidling a rapport with my players but as the time went by, things got better. The senior players were always willing to help and mutual understanding developed. Besides being a coach, I was also a mentor and friend to them. There were misundertandings and disputes but there were laughter and joy too. Since then ,training camps and chalets were held annually and it had become a informal way for reunion and gathering. Whenever I saw the older players coming back to help out, making sure the younger ones were equipped with the necessary skills, those were my moments of glory and sense of achievement. They have touched me and hope that I have touched them in one way or another too.

My role in basketball will change from a coach to a faciliator and a manager from the year 2001. I am looking forward to contribute to the team in a different way.
